The Analysis of Predictive Power on Teaching Profession’s Features Of Attitude And Students’ Levels Of Leadership In School Of Physical Education And Sports

The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between students’ levels of leadership in school of physical education and sports teaching and predictive power on teaching profession’s features of attitude. As participants 225 male and 169 female, aged between 18 and 26, in total 394 prospective teachers from departments of Physical Education and Sports Teaching of different universities have attended to the research. The Leadership Orientation Scale that was developed by Bolman and Deal (1991) and was translated or/and adapted to Turkish by Dereli (2003), The Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession which was developed by Üstüner (2006) have been applied to the prospective teachers. When the correlation between students’ features of leadership and attitude towards teaching profession has been examined, it has been determined that as a variable “attitude towards teaching profession” has a correlation with “framework of human resources” (r=,101, p<0.46), and “political environment” (r= ,113, p<0.25). As a result of the regression analysis which is applied in order to establish how prospective teachers’ features of leadership predict teachers’ attitude towards their profession, there has been meaningful correlation between attitude towards teaching profession and the sub dimensions of framework of human resources, political environment and symbolic framework. According to standardized regression coefficients, the predictive variables, the importance order on the attitude of the profession is the political environment (β=,113) and the framework of human resources (β=,101). It has been explained that these two sub dimensions’ rate of change on attitude towards teaching profession respectively are 10% and 13%. Considering meaningfulness tests of regressions’ coefficients, it has been seen that only “framework of human resources” and “political environment” (p<0.05) from the predictive variables are meaningful predictive.
Consequently, collected data has shown that the predictive power of the prospective teachers' attitudes towards teaching profession, which is open to new ideas and express skillfully negotiation behavior through a conflict and opposition, is higher.
