An Investigation of the Effect of Communication Skills of University Students Who are Doing Individual and Team Sport on Problem Solving Skills

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between communication skills and problem-solving skills, according to individual and team sports, of students studying sports sciences. Sampling was conducted in Istanbul in the academic year 2018–2019. Four universities, 2 of them being foundation and 2 being state, were included with a total of 403 students (142 women and 261 men) participating in the study. For data analysis of the research, normality test was performed, and non-parametric tests were applied in accordance with the results. Mann–Whitney U test, which was applied according to the grade variable, found that third-grade students who were doing individual and team sports, showed a significant difference between sub-dimensions of emotional communication and behavioral communication. According to the results, emotional and behavioral communication values of third-grade students who were doing individual sports were higher than those involved in team sports. In second-grade students, higher results in thinking and planned approach were observed in those who were doing team sports than those who were doing individual sports.
