The Examination Of Drowning in Water Cases in the Swimming Pool

Drowning is defined as the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion/immersion in liquid. Drowning is a public health problem. Although the exact number cannot be determined, approximately 1000 people drowning each year in Turkey. Part of this drowning is happening in swimming pools. The aim of this study is to examine the drowning accidents in pool which resulted in death between 2011 and 2016. News was searched online via search engines with using keywords such as “drowning in pool, drown by falling in pool, drowning etc.”,for this study. The news was collected day by day between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2016. Personal information of victims, types of pool, reasons for being there was recorded. Analysis of the data was performed using SPSS 18.0. As a result of the research, drowning in the pools occurred mostly in the summer months. It has been found that males had higher drowning rates than females.
