The aim of this research is to determine whether sportsmanship behaviors in physical education courses among ice hockey players differ according to variables such as gender, province, and being a member of the national team or not.

The universe of the study consists of 320 athletes, 140 males and 180 females, competing in the U16, U18, U21 and A levels of Turkish Hockey Federation during the 2016-2017 season. The sample consists of a total of 277 athletes, 131 males and 146 females from the following provinces: Bolu (n: 34); Gaziantep (n: 132); Kırıkkale (n: 36); Zonguldak (n: 37), Konya (n: 11), Muğla (n:12). In order to obtain data in the research, the "Physical Education Textbook Instructor's Behavioral Scale" (PETIBS), developed by Koç (2013) and of proven validity and reliability, was used. Sportsmanship Behavior of the players in Physical Education Course was
described using arithmetic mean ( x ) and standard deviations (sd). To determine the statistical analyzes to be performed on the obtained data, Kolmogorov-smirnov and Levene Test were conducted. Independent Groups Test was used for parametric tests when the data showed normal distribution, and Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used for comparing groups when the data did not show normal distribution. Significance level was set at (p<0.05).

According to the gender of the hockey players the statistical differences found in the total scores of sportsmanship behavior in the physical education lesson were in favor of females (p<0.01). As to avoidance subscale (p<0.001), the statistical differences were found in favor of females (p<0.001). According to the provinces of the players, the statistical differences found as to exhibit sub-dimension (p<0.001) and avoidance sub-dimension (p<0.01) and the total scores in physical education courses were in favor of Kırıkkale, Bolu, Gaziantep, Konya and Muğla provinces. According to the status of the hockey players (whether national or not) statistical differences were in favor of non-nationals in the avoidance sub-dimension (p<0.05).

As a result, it can be said that the gender of hockey players, their status (whether they are nationals or not, and their provinces have an effect on their sportsmanship behaviors; and thus, sportsmanship behavior ethos trainings should be organized for the players.
