Determination of Energy Intake and Expenditure in a Group of Elementary School Students

Obesity whole world in the last few decades is drawing attention as a growing health problem. The main reasons for this increase in obesity and malnutrition is reported to be high energy intake and lack of physical activity. Especially childhood obesity is a concern. 42-63% of those who were obese in childhood to adulthood has been reported to be obese. The aim of this study is to identify a group of high school-aged children are obese and weighed the objective measurement of energy intake and expenditure profile. The study involved 33 children on a voluntary basis with the approval of parents, measurement and evaluation of reliable data on 14 children without leaving a nonworking statistical evaluation was performed by 19 children's data. Energy intake forms prepared food consumption expenditure was recorded for 7 days with metabolic Holter devices. Of boys participating in the study is 8.55 ± 1.23 years of age, height, weight and body mass index values were 130.3 ± 8.15, 37.39 ± 8.96 and 21.73 ± 2.76; girls age 7.73 ± 1.12 years, height, weight and Body Mass Index values, respectively; 136.22 ± 8.04 cm., 39.33 ± 5.51 kg .; It was measured as 21.11 ± 1.61. Boys Estimated Daily Energy Requirements 1775.65 ± 184.42 kcal Average Daily Energy Intake 1944.2 ± 293.97 kcal Average Daily Energy Expenditure 1788 ± 415.54 kcal; girls Estimated Daily Energy Requirements 1648.61 ± 100.63 kcal Average Daily Energy Intake 1982.33 ± 345.31 kcal Average daily energy expenditure was found to be 1819.22 ± 274.35 kcal. The results showed no difference between spending that occurred with boys estimated requirements but the actual energy intake suggests that much. intake and expenditure is calculated with the actual needs of girls are different. The results achieved with the knowledge and experience of the work of combating obesity in children We believe would be beneficial to the healthy growth and development and long-term preventive measures.
