The aim of the study is to evaluate relationship between leg mass and flexibility, isometric leg strength, instep kick ball velocity and Yo-yo IR1 parameters of adolescent soccer players.
49 male soccer players (defenders [n=18], midfielders [n=19] and forwards [n=12]) from youth development leagues of one of the amateur team from Eskişehir participated voluntarily to the study. Leg mass, flexibility, isometric leg strength, instep kick ball velocity and Yo-yo IR1 parameters were tested. The relationship between leg mass and performance parameters was tested via Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. The “SPSS 22 for Windows” was used for statistical analyses.
According to study results, there were positive statistically significant correlation occurred between leg mass and flexibility (r:0.2932: p<0.05), Yo-yo IR1 (r:0.4069: p<0.01) isometric leg strength (r:0.4415: p<0.01) and instep kick ball velocity (r:0.7065: p<0.01).
The highest positive correlation occurred between leg mass and isometric leg mass, instep kick ball velocity. This could be explained that the leg mass increased with the physical development of soccer players; therefore; it might happened that strength required isometric leg strength and ball velocity results showed higher correlation to leg mass in comparison with flexibility and endurance parameters.
